While all of those before me are jumping on the bandwagon, I myself stand casually aside in dismayed amusement.

Something about this possible role just does not in any way, shape, or form appeal to me. Johnny as the Riddler? To that I say no thanks.

Can he do it? Ladies and Gents I submit to you that yes, he can do it and not only would he do it, he'd take it to that next level.

So, whether my discontent stems from my avoidance of superhero movies or from the mainstream (of course that's a bit hypocritical considering Pirates, but hey they didn't have box office success planned), or lastly the over-used idea of Batman, I'm unsure.

The only "Batman" to me was and will always be Michael Keaton. No film in that line will ever be as good as the first. The original Batman had the right formula: Tim Burton, Mr. Great Visions himself, good actors and one amazingly wicked villain portrayed by none other than Mr. Jack. (Though just from photos I've seen I must say that Heath appeared astounding as The Joker.) So when "they" played around and changed who portrayed Batman several times, I lost interest.

Anyway, I've blathered. Should Johnny decide to take the roll I'll tease him unmercifully (because let's face it I have that horrid mental image of Jim what's-his-face in that hideous green spandex suit) will not see the film, but as always my support is sans any conditions. Cheers to you Johnny.

Now, if you'll Riddle me this...

While I should part take in unconfirmed things like this, I do have to add my two cents:
First of all; that horrible questionmark-covered green spandex-suit Jim Carrey wore in the equally horribly Batman Forever (I think that's the one; I lost my interest in Barman movies somewhere between Batman Returns and Batman Begins) isn't what the Riddler looks like in the comics (currently). I think it was Joel Shoemacker's (somewhat lame) attempt to pay homage to the cheesy, campy 60's Batman television series.

If you're really interested in how mr. Depp might portray the Riddler, you should go to your local comicbook store, and track down the two massive trade paperbacks by Jeff Loeb and Tim Sale called "The Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory". Within these pages, you'll find a Riddler that sort of has the characteristics of Depp's character in Sleepy Hollow (Ichabod Crane). No spandex, but instead a green suit. You should also note that the writer of the new Batman flicks (especially Batman Begins) drew HEAVILY from these two compilations, as well as Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns series, and the one-shot "The Killing Joke" (with beautiful art by Brian Bolland).

So, in my opinion, would Johnny Depp be good as The Riddler? That's a tough question, but I have to say that the scale leans towards "no", although - being the gifted actor that he is - I just don't see him in a franchise like this. I honestly can't see the creative 'freedom' or 'drive' that seems to move Depp in his films within the Batman series. But I could be wrong, of course. Only time will tell...

I assume of course he be wearing like the green suit and hat outfit than the spandex thing anyways. maybe he be bringing the like the old Riddler outfit back.

Of course I didn't mean that Johnny would literally be wearing a green spandex suit, I just used that as a reference for the fact that in my opinion the villains in the Batman films following Batman returns (Batman Forever and what ever one came after) were a hideous mockery. It was just entirely too cheesy.

Yeah, I've heard about this too. It would be very interesting to see him in the new Batman movie franchise, let me tell you. I think he might be able to pull off the role.

I don't know but I just don't picture Johnny as the Riddler. I'm not saying he couldn't act the part, he can do anything, but I just don't see him playing this role. We'll see though.

I'm on the fence with this one. I think he could change up the character and make it his own, but Johnny has always stayed away from the big franchises so I don't know if he'd fit into the whole picture of it. I guess we'll just have to see won't we? It's still just gossip?

Johnny is great in every part he plays and he would be great as The Riddler.

But I thought that POTC was a big franchise.... maybe it's not as big as some other ones, but I think it's big enough.

When they first um.. set sail on making POTC, it was never intended to become the runaway success it became. The filmmakers always percieved it as a 'little film with a moderate budget'.

First I'd like to see The dark Knight, with Heath. Then I'd like to say, if Johnny can play the Riddler.
